And So it Goes

Such a shame to have picked up a few new readers only to be almost immediately sucked into the darkest deapths of the work abyss. But sucked in I got, all the same, and there's no sense waxing poetic about it here, now.

Thanks for all of your kind words re: TD's father. He's finally back home in Maryland, and is on the slow journey to a full recovery.

Cheryl, of contest-winning fame contacted me today to say that she used her gift certificate to pick up some mmmMalabrigo. I'm glad, because it relieves a small bit of guilt that I've been having due to not pulling my weight in Malabrigo March (the months not over yet... I'll cast on soon, I promise)

Although there hasn't been much knitting going on this month, I somehow still have Lots To Report!

Before the whole work vortex thing struck, I had made some astoundingly good progress on the sock-knitting front (hospital waiting rooms are mighty good for this).

First, I started a jaywalker in Gypsyknits BFL:

After I got over the knitterly denial of this thing ever fitting on my foot (which, as you can see... took me all the way until the heel flap), I gave up and decided to work on something so easy that even I couldn't mess it up: stockinette socks! I erred on the large side after the jaywalker disaster, but I think they are going to be just fine.

I finished one stockinette sock in on-line on US 1s.

I'm made the leg quite long, and they are quite big around, so I'm moderately concerned that I'm going to run out of yarn on the second one. We shall see.

Then, I cast on for this beauty - the Gentleman's Half Hose in Ringwood Pattern from Knitting Vintage Socks (which, for those of us keeping track, I bought over a year before actually attempting my first sock).

I am heavily modifying the pattern to meet my preferences, gauge, and foot size - a feet that I'm feeling quite proud of myself for. I probably should get this finished before bragging too much... though I am cautiously optimistic that these will literally be the best pair of socks, ever.

I totally dig the color. It's Regia, purchased from Natural Stitches, and I'm using US 0s.

In non-knitting, but foot-related news, I've had a bit of a health issue as of late.

Do you see that odd bump below my pinky toe? That, my friends, is a bunionette or a "tailor's bunion". I have one on each foot, and they have never been more than a mild nuisance up until a couple weeks ago. Unfortunately, they are now much more than a mild nuisance, and this is the kind of thing that will only get worse, not better. So, surgery it is.
But - bonus! I'll have a removeable cast for about 4-5 weeks for each foot. Can you say "who cares about single sock sydrome"?
